NDT - Impulse Response

PCTS offer IR certification, a method of non-destructive evaluation of concrete based on the use of impact-generated stress (sound) waves that propagate through the structure and are reflected by internal flaws and external surfaces.

Introduction

PCTS use Olson's NDE360 to measure the mobility value of a structural member. The measured load/time of a surface impact on the test object is related to the response. The Impulse Response method is used by PCTS to indicate any significant variation in the structures response.

Application

CTS Technicians are available to:

Cathodic Protection

We know what current is and what effect it has on steel. But what is its effect on corrosion? There are several factors which contributes to the inhibition of the corrosion process : a) Every corrosion reaction initiates with an electrochemical reaction of the substrate (steel). It starts with the simple corrosion reaction : Fe (substrate)Fe2+ + As can be seen the corrosion reaction charges the steel bar with negative particles, such as the current does. We have seen our steel bar when charged by current. Millions and millions of electrons per second squeezed together.

The steel bar is already fully charged with electrons. b) As previously seen the hydroxide-ions formed (to become the electrons carriers): (H2O)+(O2)+ (OH) will create an alkaline environment around the steel bar. This alkaline environment will passivate the steel. Ground Penetrating Radar

PCTS offer Reinforcement Mapping and Cover Certification.

PCTS use Ground Penetrating Radar technology to determine concrete cover as well as locate embedded reinforcement steel.

PCTS offer sub-surface imaging and reinforcement mapping on- site and in the form of a test certificate.


Electrical Resistivity Test

PCTS carry out Electrical Resistivity Testing using the Wenner Four Point Probe to assess the quality / uniformity of concrete at various depths.

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity

PCTS use Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity technology to measure the transit time of a pulse between transducers placed on the surface of a body of concrete.

The pulse velocity is then calculated using the measured path length through the concrete.
