NDT - Impact Echo

PCTS offer Impact Echo Thickness Certification, an acoustic non-destructive test method used to assess the dimensions and integrity of concrete and masonry.

Introduction

PCTS use Olson Instruments NDE360. A CTS technician strikes the surface of a structural element with a tuned hammer (a steel ball of specific size) to produce a pressure wave (P-wave) pulse in the material of up to 90kHz that propagates into the structure and is reflected by internal discontinuities or external surfaces.

Galvanic Anodes for Crack Repair

Where saline water is at pressure on one face of an element and the other face is open to air, water will flow under the pressure gradient through cracks that traverse from one face to the other. Such cracks typically occur due to early age thermal contraction. Where reinforcement is designed to control the cracks to a width that will self-heal in a relatively short time then the water that has penetrated along the crack will have deposited relatively little chloride in the concrete and corrosion will not be an issue.


Electrical Resistivity Test

PCTS carry out Electrical Resistivity Testing using the Wenner Four Point Probe to assess the quality / uniformity of concrete at various depths.


Impulse Response

PCTS offer IR certification, a method of non-destructive evaluation of concrete based on the use of impact-generated stress (sound) waves that propagate through the structure and are reflected by internal flaws and external surfaces.


Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity

PCTS use Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity technology to measure the transit time of a pulse between transducers placed on the surface of a body of concrete.

The pulse velocity is then calculated using the measured path length through the concrete.
